Review of ATM (2012) by Ali D — 16 Oct 2012
(1 Star) ATM is one of the most awful, irritating, and braindead thrillers I have ever seen. I 99.9% guarantee you'll hate it, unless you're some sort of sadist. Three "friends" (Brian Geraghty, Josh Peck, and Alice Eve) go to standalone ATM in the middle of nowhere for pretty idiotic reasons. In fact, the whole film happens because Josh Peck's character is a huge idiot... this isn't the exposition to a thriller, it's a bad episode of Workaholics. They are trapped in the vestibule by what looks like the slasher from Urban Legend. They have numerous opportunities to escape, but the film wants us to believe they can't make it out. You will roll your eyes a lot at the ludicrous things that happen including mistaking somebody else for the killer, turning on each other, and (I'm not kidding, this is in the trailer) a flood in the ATM.
The ending sucks... just take my word for it. It's not open-ended at all because nothing is explained. You want the killer's motivation? Forget it. You know a movie is bad when the end credits scroll by at a snails pace to make up for the fact they barely had a story. I hope I'm not making ATM sound like a "so bad, you have to see it" film. It just sucks.
