Review of Atlas Shrugged: Part II (2012) by Mike K — 13 Oct 2012
If you are an Objectivist who goes to see Atlas Shrugged 2 in order to hear and see the philosophy on the big screen, prepare to be disappointed.
On the other hand, if you want to see some of the general themes in AS, highly abridged, and with a libertarian twist with pop culture references (and this won't bother you) then you should go see it.
The quality and feel of the movie was better than the last and I enjoyed the performance by most of the actors. There were many cameo appearances by different well known people such as Teller (the magician), an actor from ER, Shawn Hannity just to name a few.
I think this part felt less rushed due to the content in this part of the book. It has a lot more going on and will definitely appeal to people who want less character development and more excitement.
Speaking of characters: They changed the actors, this was told to us far in advance. But besides Dagny I liked most of them more, if not equally, than before. For some the change might feel weird, and I sympathize, but I was quickly pulled into the story and mostly forgot it.
Be prepared for Sci-fi channel quality CGI. I am used to it, but for those who aren't it will definitely feel a little corny, but it is appropriately used most of the time.
For me, I want AS to be about 60 hours long and to hear all the speeches and especially Ayn Rands philosophy OF Objectivism immortalized on the big screen. Ultimately though, the book is #51 as of writing this on Amazon and that fact makes me most happy overall.
(The critics are liars, no seriously, they are. Do not even bother reading their reviews, this movie was not FANTASTIC by any measure. But their disgusting and purposefully ignorant misunderstanding of Ayn Rands ideas are close to libel by any person who has an internet connection in this day and age.
She was the last centuries greatest philosopher (for me: EVER) and any reasonable person should consider reading her novels and other writings to gain an understanding of why, which this movie will not give you.).
