Review of Atlas Shrugged: Part II (2012) by Darrell T — 20 Oct 2012
Although many have found the book unreadable, as with Part I, Part II drapes well on the book's story arc, further popularizing its thesis. Diluting the cliff-hanger ending, introducing John Galt, limits Part III's direction and spoon-feeds the audience antithetical to its philosophy.
The film has high production values and good scripting. Since the time frame between Parts I and II is slight, evidenced by gas prices rising a mere $5 a gallon, from $37 to $42, between the two, the shift from the Ivy League sets and vehicles in Part I to the Ultra-Modern in Part II lacks an explanation for anyone following the trilogy.
The graphics were superior to the first film; however, except for Francisco, my preference is for the original cast. Overall, excellent entertainment, well worth the time, well worth the money and an easy introduction to Ayn Rand's philosophy.
