Review of Atlas Shrugged: Part I (2011) by Roberto A — 25 Apr 2011
Would have been a 10 of 10, except for some minor points, such as a train racing along on a winding track in the Rockies at 250 mph - not at all possible, or realistic.
But... overall... a tremendous film coming at a time when almost everything coming out of Hollywood is "low-budget drivel!" Whatever happened to the great productions and superstars of the past - no longer to be found in any film.
And... it presents a very real battle between good (individual initiative) and evil (repression of such creativity and initiative by organized labor and government regulation), which is being waged even now among our incompetent elected representatives, our business leaders and entrepreneurs. The battle between independent, entrepreneurial creativity and initiative, which built this great Nation and brought us all the lavish quality of life, which we all enjoy and those who would crush such spirit and initiative to leave us to live in depressed squaller.
The contrasting symbolism between the success of such spirit symbolized by the privately developed high-speed rail system, and the old, crumbling manufacturing plant in Wisconsin, which had been shut down years ago by the destructive demands of the labor unions and regulators, leaving the plant and town in decay and shambles - makes the point all too well.
And... it portrays what the future holds for companies like GM, which are living on borrowed time... their failing life extended only by the $60 billion we taxpayers were forced to pay to the unions in Detroit, to keep them in business a few more years, which will never be recovered.
Unfortunately, the message will likely be missed by all those under 30 (and maybe even 40), who will not understand the battle, or it's terms, or certain outcomes - having been brain-washed by their incompetent, subversive educators, who would never have included Atlas Shrugged on their required reading lists, and would have banned not only the book from Boston, but also this great movie.
But, alas... "that's how it works" in the real world.
