Review of Atlas Shrugged: Part I (2011) by Mark J — 24 Apr 2011
If you haven't read the book, you may be slightly bewildered at the fine details of the plot. As I watched, I inserted several plot points and character traits into my head as I watched. But ... overall, the first time viewer (non reader) of this material will be able to forest from the trees.
The casting may be the strongest part of this movie. Mostly unknowns playing Rand's iconic characters do not bring their own Hollywood persona into the film, which it a huge positive.
I had read Roger Ebert's review (he trashed it, 1 star) and now I understand why he hated the movie ... he realized he was too much like Wesley Mouch, one of "Shrugged" most odious characters. Ebert will never understand the question, "Who is John Galt?".
