Review of Atlas Shrugged: Part I (2011) by Gavin K — 29 Apr 2011
I am biased in favor of the movie because of my admiration for the message of the book. There were many things in the movie they did well and generally true to the intent of the book. The adaptation of the story to modern times at the beginning of the film was done very well. A few things were not as I imagined, however. The relationships were somewhat out of sequence as I remember. The motor wasn't explained clearly before they began searching. There wasn't a true climax in the movie, but that will play into the upcoming parts, I suppose.
The beginning of the movie, portraying the economic calamity resulting from government intrusion, was sequenced very well and set the stage as good as I could expect.
The character's emotions did not fully come across. Dagny's scream at the end was overdone. Mixed feelings about the movie. The next part will have to be a step up from this one.
