Review of Atlas Shrugged: Part I (2011) by Gregory G — 21 May 2011
I don't think I've ever seen a movie so universally liked by viewers and so universally hated by the critics. It's not about the acting or the scripting - not with an opinion gulf this wide. It is obviously about the message.
The looters hate it because they don't want their candy taken away - they don't want to loose their free-ride upon the backs of others.
The producers in our society (the intelligent working people and business entrepreneurs) love it because it drags the looters and parasites out of a dark corner and forces them into the sunlight.
The approval statistics ARE very revealing... especially when you realize that professional movie critics don't create or produce anything of value for society.
If you believe yourself to be a productive member of society, I'd place a lot more weight on the audience reviews. They are much more likely to be living by the same moral code.
