Review of Atlas Shrugged: Part I (2011) by Asif K — 12 Nov 2011
The cast was entirely wrong. Rearden looked like he sat in a hallway on the Miami Vice set. They were all cast way too young and had no callouses or scars. I pictured Rearden as a hardened enterprise warrior in the book, not a dainty Ken toy. Same goes for the rest of them. The contrast between the warriors and the parasitic "looters" should have been greater, but instead they all looked like they graduated from the same acting class together a week before filming. Nobody looked like a business giant. Francisco and Dagny included.
My interpretation from the book was way different, it was hard to watch a movie made for 2016 when it clashed violently with my concepts from the past. Overall I was glad it came out, but it was unfortunately a rather bungled underfunded attempt that failed.
I think I felt somewhat euphoric after seeing it and feeling positive that my coveted philosophy of objectivism is spreading and the flock is growing thereby ensuring my survival. But if I just saw that movie without having any bias then I would say the movie as it stands alone utterly sucked.
