Review of Atlas Shrugged: Part I (2011) by Kerry S — 26 Dec 2011
Oh holy piece of crap. This movie stinks so bad, and what makes it worse is that the Randian devotees mobilized to post about it. Or maybe, they were the only people besides movie critics who saw this movie. It's so bad, that I had to get online and warn others.
1. The actors are bad. The dialogue is bad. Hell, the story is bad. I feel like I'm watching a reality show produced by FOX news. I hope the book was a lot better.
2. Steel? Seriously? All right, fine. Oh, the government can take away your business? Not if it's not a monopoly. Fine. 37$ for a gallon of gas and there are still cars driving around? Listen carefully. There are.
3. The movie is filled with straw dog antagonist freeloaders and bureaucrats as foils for the heroically honorable and super sexy saviors of society. "Oh no, the government doesn't want us to be so awesome." What a crock. Not even Communism works like that.
4. Political message. It's funny that this movie holds up the "value producers" as model citizens, yet itself being one of the worst movies I've seen recently. Value: wasting an hour of my life. The motives in this movie are so shallow. It's such a "they hate us for our freedoms" kind of depiction. Ugh. God. I'm pretty sure this Objectivism thing is OH LOOK, IT'S THE EMPEROR'S WEENIE! Sure, there's no moral imperative to NOT be a douchebag. Ayn said so. But remember, kids, there is no free market, and not everybody gets a railroad for Christmas.
I feel like I did after watching the Celestine Prophecy. Didn't see it? It sucked too. It was a bedtime story that you read to baby hippies. Atlas Shrugged is a story you read to baby atheist free market capitalists. Anyway, the connection is that each story is just long-winded ideologue propaganda with the candy-coating of moving pictures so you don't have to be bothered to read the story.
