Review of Atlas Shrugged: Part I (2011) by Shawna L — 21 Feb 2012
This is a lofty film, practically a political documentary, based on Ayn Rand's 1957 famous novel by the same name. Basically, there are people tired of their honed talents & entrepreneurial contributions being manipulated by govt.
& those colluding with govt., who say they're trying to spread equality, yet they do so by dragging the successful down to the lowest common denominator, taking from the accomplished to give handouts to the lazy.
They're essentially trying to spread poverty equally while they themselves get rich. That being said, there are those trying to get rich by being in bed with govt. & trying to squash competition by getting govt.
to write laws against competition, laws that benefit their own company's monopoly. Meanwhile, govt. politicians thirst for power with a common theme of claiming to be do what's best for the group, with a mantra to "sacrifice a few for the good of many," that the individual & competition are bad, & the group as a whole is more important.
As a result, those trying to better themselves turn against govt. & those colluding with govt. Ultimately, people get fed up with their talents & businesses not coming to fruition because of govt.
policies & regulations, & fed up with govt. taking their assets to be replaced by govt.-run businesses. Those people go on strike & get swept up by a new world order where enterprise & ambition are rewarded, where govt.
doesn't run the world & where there are no govt. programs--social, welfare, or otherwise. In the end, the givers leave because the takers take too much, & pretty soon the people pulling the wagon have left, so those riding in the wagon are left with no motion forward &, therefore, total dependence on govt.
handouts, which is what the govt. wanted all along. Truth or fiction?
