Review of Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) by Colin H — 29 Apr 2011
How come people don't talk about this Disney film more? I for one thought it was pretty awesome!
Short summary, a young man hoping to strike it famous as an explorer and professor finds the way to the lost city of Atlantis, and is given a government funded motley crew of professionals to aid in his search. But what will the find down in the ocean?
Okay, so it is a short movie and the overlying plot is predictable, and it doesn't have your classic Disney elements, but what is has is some pretty incredible visuals, precisely designed machinery and an eye for fantastical functionality and mysticism. And I like those sorts of visuals, I certainly found myself hooked to them.
Our friend Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Serenity) aids the writers and I think helps deliver some of the witty dialogue from a group of lovable rogues. I recommend it!
