Review of Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001) by Kevin R — 30 Dec 2013
1,000 years ago we would have slain them on site.
A young man who works at a museum and is the son of an explorer has dreams of finding Atlantis. He cannot get the museum to financially back his expeditions. He finds a book from Atlantis from an old friend of his dad's, and his dad's friend agrees to financially back him as a favor to his dad. Can the young man find Atlantis and the origins of the lost city's power?
"I sleep in the nude.".
"...and she sleep walks.".
Gary Trousdale, director of Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and The Pig Who Cried Wolf, delivers Atlantis: The Lost Empire. The storyline for this picture is just okay and was a little disappointing. The animation style was also just okay but the action scenes and characters were solid. The voices are well selected and include Michael J. Fox, Jim Varney, Corey Burton, James Garner, Leonard Nimoy, and Cree Summer.
"You didn't just drink that, did you?".
I watched this off Netflix with my daughter this weekend. It was the first time we ever watched this film and I can tell you that I am slightly disappointed with this picture. I thought the animation style and quality would be on par with Treasure Planet; unfortunately, this falls short and ends up being just another average addition to the genre. I recommend only seeing this with your children once and I wouldn't add it to my Disney DVD collection.
"We'll travel in style.".
