Review of ATL (2006) by Tino R — 18 Sep 2010
I seriously underestimated this film. I thought it was just some commercial nonsense trying to leech some money from young posers, but I was wrong. The screenwriter made an earnest attempt at portraying Georgia life for the lower-class youth, with some genuine messages regarding responsibility and maturity.
The setting was realistic and the sets very fitting, costumes weren't a great deal complex but they were well done. The characters were hit-and-miss. The primary characters revealed some depth and development as the story progressed, but the smaller ones were often very two-dimensional.
I thought the little titles were really unnecessary, and the "three months later" idea was terrible. I thought it was ridiculous how after all that drama things went back to normal. They should have made the younger brother get shot or something.
I think with a better director this film could have been something really special.
