Review of Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner (2002) by Tibor B — 18 Feb 2008
Unique film, the first to be filmed in the Inuit language. Entirely filmed on location in the Canadian north (an achievement in itself), this is an interesting story of human rivalry, jealousy and perseverance.
Although the lifestyle of the characters is totally alien the themes and emotions are universal. Its pace is deliberate, which works well as it mirrors the slow pace of life in the cold climate. My only criticism is that it wasn't clear what the supernatural legend was about.
