Review of Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner (2002) by Jacob F — 04 Sep 2008
While this is right up my alley as far as indigenous cinema this is also as engrossing a film as you'll find ( if a 3 hr film in Inuit sounds dull you're wrong), and it makes up for its shortcomings (some strained motivations) with sheer audacity and human emotion.
It doesn't care whether you get whats going on or not (exists on its own terms), a quality I love but don't often see in non-Anglo films, so if you're struggling, and you most likely will, just let the first 30 minutes wash over you, it all fits back together, and reveals its brilliance, in the end.
