At Close Range is a powerful story about the conflict between father and son that leads to tragedy. The film is loosely based on a true story. What happens in the course of the film is enough to exhaust the reactions of the viewer.

The story is made powerful from the tense moments and strong emotions. The director lends some brilliance in creating a tight and compact crime drama. The acting is very good as a total sum. Sean Penn and Christopher Walken have very believable onscreen father-son chemistry and complement each other well frame by frame.

Kiefer Sutherland (the main guy from the hit TV series "24" features in a small supporting role) adds a bit of boast to the star cast line up, but does not offer much more. The entire production seems to be on a very low budget, but this film clearly proves that even films made on a shoe string budget can be a movie worth watching time and time again.
