Review of Astro Boy (2009) by Tyler S — 27 Jan 2011

Well it's definitely a beautiful looking movie, with some good action and very funny at times, with some really good voice acting (especially Bill Nighy and excluding Nic Cage who just sounds stoned, bored or both) that sadly is the only good things I can say however.

I am a pretty big fan of the original mangas written by Osamu Tezuka and really the main problem with this film is not that they change basically everything from the orignal stories but that they never really give you much of a reason to be invested in the characters and I could see why it didn't catch the audiences interest (if I weren't a fan already I wouldn't have cared).

Also it's portrayed way to kiddie for the themes it's try to discuss such as a dad losing his son and finding your place in the world. Lastly the whole thing really just moves to quickly and easily together and yet only about 5 minutes into this movie it already feels like it's gone on to long.

..never a good sign. hopefully someday someone will finally give this great character a proper film.
