Review of Assault on Precinct 13 (2005) by Jens S — 28 Apr 2008
The remake of John Carpenter's classic thriller takes the situation of an abandoned police station under siege from the original sizzling hot summer night to Detroit under snow storm. While the attackers in the old movie were brutal and somewhat faceless gang members, who didn't have much of a motivation, this time it's well equipped corrupt cops, which made the original in its pointlessness even darker and hopeless.
Still, this is well filmed, contains some good action, a cast of great names and one or another unexpected plot turn. Only the ending turns out to be somewhat too conventional. Carpenter's original remains the winner, but this is still good action entertainment.
