Review of Assault on Precinct 13 (2005) by Emily A — 30 Jan 2009
I was very pleasantly surprised by this film. I didn't expect much, but it had a lot going for it. I really liked every character, and they all had genuine motivation for everything they did. The action sequences were really engaging and well shot, and the interactions between hero and villain were fascinating.
Drea DeMatteo really surprised me in this- her range goes much furthr than Adrianna from the Sopranos. And Laurence Fishburne is really chilling as Bishop, the stone cold motherfucker. I even liked the peripheral characters, especially the macho chick in the prison cell.
What really threw me about this movie was the ease with which the filmmakers killed off thier characters. It's really jarring to see a layered, interesting and likeable character take a bullet point-blank between the eyes.
It happens more than once.
