Review of Assault on Precinct 13 (2005) by Worker M — 18 Jan 2011
Miles better than the impotent original. This film is a gun lovers dream come true. I remember when I first saw this in theaters. I was blown away. The gun shots literally rocked the theater. Almost non-stop action with awesome gore and it has cool explosions. Richet really knows how to shoot an action scene.
The plot is pretty straight forward, and just serves to throw us action. Precinct 13 is being closed down on New Years Eve, but a prisoner transport truck is forced to bring their prisoners to Precinct 13 due to the weather. Of the prisoners being transported is a cop killing gangster played by Laurence Fishburne. Spoiler Alert! It turns out that cops outside of Precinct 13 want Fishburne's character dead because he is a witness to the cop's wrongdoings, and he cant be allowed by them to appear in court. In other words, he cant be allowed to leave Precinct 13. That really is not a spoiler at all as it is given away in the trailer. Jake (Ethan Hawke's character) decides that this is not right and that he should not hand Fishburne to the corrupt cops. Sweet mayhem ensues as one huge, long firefight breaks out. Jake also lets the prisoners out and gives them weapons in order to help defend themselves.
This is a great movie, and a must see for action fans.
