Review of Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) by Noah G — 06 Jan 2008
Solid action movie. The first time that I, personally had seen Laurence Fishburne outside of the Matrix trilogy and also my first film starring Ethan Hawke. As many will know, this is a remake of the 1976 B-Movie classic of the same name.
The idea of the film remains similar, with a group of police officers, led by Hawke and inmates headed by Fishburne forced to work together in order to fight off a siege upon Precinct 13. The motive of the siege is different in the remake to the original but to be perfectly honest, the scene that sparked the attack in the 1976 version probably wouldn't be allowed now and even if it was, it wouldn't be as powerful as it was then.
Simply, this is a glossy remake and it entertained me in a different way to the original. With more of a story and very solid acting by the mainly second string cast, it was a pleasure to watch the occupants of Precinct 13 fight their corner once again.
