Review of Assassin's Creed (2016) by Jeramie K — 11 Jan 2017
The video games dazzled audiences. They entranced us with depth of story and characters alike. The scenery, mechanics, setting -- all fantastic but secondary in nature.
This film took years of development, ground-work, and eventual success of a brand and tarnished it under 2 hours flat. It would be an impressive feat if it weren't so embarrassing. Assassin's Creed is nothing short of a miss.
This film is proof that Justin Kurzel and his group of writers didn't understand the source material or the people who would fill seats. Somewhere along the line they thought they could do better and tried -- but not very hard. Their idea was to leave movie-goers in stitches over these intense visuals and a saturation of plot and character.
A complete and utter bastardization. Maybe the biggest disappointment coming from Assassin's Creed -- proving that Michael Fassbender truly is fallible.
