Review of Assassin's Creed (2016) by Rebeca R — 15 Jan 2017
I'd like to thank the critics for setting my expectations for this film so low that I actually thought this movie was kind of awesome.
Fassbender carried this film brilliantly with an enthralling nuanced performance. Bringing the physicality of an elite assassin and yet believable as a bitter, low key criminal who discovers his great destiny during the trials he endures.
The action scenes set in medieval Spain are thrilling, spectacular, edge of your seat stuff. As good as any I've seen in recent times.
The plot based on the concept of genetic memory is an interesting one. Science has found that our genetic code is effected by what happens to us such as our diet and so on. Fassbender's character is forced to regress and relive the experiences of his ancestors in order for the the bad guys to find a powerful, ancient artifact. Compared to Star War Rogue One I found the story pretty easy to follow & I connected with Fassbenders character a lot more than anybody in that film also.
The present world visuals striking, with a surreal quality blended particularly when the action scenes overlap it cut with bleak stark dystopia.
Critics have done their best to assassinate this movie, but listen to me when I say 'creed is good'.
