Review of Assassin's Bullet (2012) by Roy Hector K — 17 Oct 2012
This is basically a B-movie made in a foreign country to lower budget costs. In fairness, there are a lot of beautiful sites in Sofia, Bulgaria where this movie was made, and they count as one of the very few good things about this movie.
I have been to Sofia, Bulgaria, but even the novelty of seeing a country I have been to onscreen is not enough to save this movie. For one, the pacing is very S-L-O-W, and most of the film is quite predictable. That combination meant I had a hard time trying to keep myself interested and awake during the movie.
There are some spots where the movie's twists seem intriguing and promising, but they all ended up in major loopholes which the movie was unable to tie up cleanly. One stupid loophole was the assumption that a simple change in hairpiece would render one completely unrecognizable to the people you've already met before.
Other loopholes include the plot of corrupt, gunrunning policemen which the movie seemed to have decided to drop altogether and forget about completely for the rest of the movie. And what about Christian Slater's supposed investigation of the murders?
It's sad to see former A-list actors like Christian Slater, Donald Sutherland and Timothy Spall forced to take films like this just to find work. They all try hard, but the lack of effective material renders their efforts futile.
Overall, forget about this movie, go find something else to watch.
