Review of Assassins (1995) by Matthew H — 14 Feb 2008
Assassins holds a special place in my heart as I saw part of it as a child and loved it. They just don't make action films like this any more and Assassins for me was part of the high point of the nineties for Stallone.
Along with The Specialist, Demolition Man and Judge Dredd, this movie kept Stallone churning out decent action flicks through the early to mid nineties. I guess it is a routine action movie but I think that Antonio Banderas and Sylvester Stallone are perfectly cast as opposing hitmen hunting each other down and Julianne Moore, always good in her films, is solid here too.
If you switch your brain off for 2 hours and just sit back and enjoy, you will get a lot out of Assassins, Stallone has rarely been better and although it's never going to win awards, you will most definitely be entertained.
