Review of Assassination of a High School President (2008) by Tim F — 17 Mar 2011
I was wondering what kind of movie would be and >I still don't realy know besides it being a hunurous high school investigation. It's actually told by the school journalist, making it clear it's a big one, a real high school scandal! The premissis for it are made pretty clearly of the president, a jock ofcourse who supposebly stole the SAT exams from the principle's ofice.
The principle is played by a Vietnam veteran- Bruce with a wooden leg. Yes, he uses traumatizing army discipline and autority. still the typical whispering-like Bruce, the furious potential, is noticable.
For the nosy journalist Bobby Funke ( with a silent e), Reece playes an outmost solid role, completely lost in his piece! And here is where it turns Columbo, realy! (Except for the eye) The way scenes are used is like in a real cop movie, the meeting with Paul in detention makes a big entry for that! The way everyone acts, the pretty girl played by Mischa who suspisciously gets familiar with him.
It turns into a real investigation, putting all the pieces together.Even a real assassinationscene takes place! Bobby's character is also derived I think from a comicbook 'Jerome K. Jerome' about a trenchcoat reporter who travels by bicycle, as Bobby does.
Eventually it's not that hard to figure it out yourself. Except it's obvious that the real perpetrators are left off-screen. Not that it's so unbelievable and lucrative, it makes sence, it's just the overwhelming act of solving the case that's so distracting to itself.
Eventually everything falls together nicely. It's certainly not a bummer that it all takes place in and around the high school, although it seems like we're going somewhere else, the several plot twists and turns lift this up.
It just would have nice. This is a real fine addaptation to a high school comedy!
