Review of Ashes and Diamonds (1958) by Joni K — 11 Jun 2008
Wajda treats the tragedy of Poland with brutal force and beauty. The total decline of both, the West and the East has been pictured in unforgettable fashion. A visually gimmicky and emotionally strong, burning work of cinematography.
Poetic without the pretentious pseudo-depression of Eastern Europe art-house.
