Review of Ashes and Diamonds (1958) by Nishlank J — 05 Dec 2008
Sure the story is interesting enough to hold your attention. We follow a couple of hired assassins who killed the wrong guy and must correct the situation. Interesting, right? It goes deeper into the mind of one of the assassins, acted brilliantly by Zbigniew Cybulski, and his looming doubt as to if he wants to continue this life he's chosen.
The element of this film that will stick with me,though, is the breathtaking visual sequences. I could name so many scenes in this film that are just so utterly unique and beautiful. The fireworks, the love scene, the run from the Red Army, the garbage heap death, etc.
They're images that make me really love this film. The story will probably take center stage when I watch it again but for now my eyes and I are more than satisfied with what we just saw.
