Review of Asfalto (2000) by David S — 14 Nov 2007
A entirely generic crime-drama from Spain that does feature solid performances from the main cast - which includes Juan Diego Botto ("Silencio roto") and Najwa Nimri ("El Método"), two fine Spanish actors - but the plot is so woefully clichéd and run-of-the-mill that it's perdictable from beginning to end, making it a very dull experience.
The writer-director, Daniel Calparsoro, does show competence in his direction - even going on to direct the very good (though overly-melodramatic) war picture "Guerreros" (aka "Warrirors") - but his writing skills here are severely lacking.
Only those who are avid fans of Spanish cinema should consider watching this, others should definitely skip it.
