Based on William Faulkner's classic novel, As I Laying Dying follows the Bundrens, a poor southern clan who embark on an injurious road-trip to bury their mother in her chosen resting place. Faulkner used shifting narrators, enigmatic streams-of-consciousness, and local dialects and colloquials to explore the disparities of the human experience, even within the same region or family.

The movie adaptation instead remains disappointingly indicative of director/star James Franco's insufferable pretension.
