Review of As Good as It Gets (1997) by Christopher S — 17 Aug 2011
Funny enough, I remember misinterpreting the now classic romance line of "You make me want to be a better man" as comedy the first time I heard it in a trailer for this film. I of course figured it out shortly after, but the iconic line is not the greatest part, nor the greatest bit of dialog from this movie.
I truly fell in love with this movie from beginning to end. It's not often a character like Melvin Udall (played by Nicholson) can be so well crafted that we simultaneously feel compassion for him and yet understand why everyone around can't stand him.
Brilliant writing, Brilliant acing, Brilliant directing -- all in all, just plain brilliant.
