Review of As Good as It Gets (1997) by Joe M — 09 Jun 2013
Jack Nicholson stars as an OCD writer who has to learn how to live in society. This film does a good job telling a story, and keeps you highly invested in the main character. However, it also gets frustrating watching the main character go through all the things, that he has to deal with. My biggest issue with this film, is that it felt like there were a lot of plot points, that were just dropped, or never wrapped up. Also it treats doctors at hospitals like idiots, her kid has asthma, lots of kids have asthma so the writers should have picked a more realistic disease.
What this film does well is keep you interested and highly invested in the main character. You feel all his ups and downs, and get mad at other characters when they can't see that he is actually struggling from a mental illness, and that is why he acts the way he does. Through others he learns to grow, and you feel you kind of grow with him as the audience, which the film does subtly well. Overall worth a watch through if you are with your girlfriend, because she will like this film.
