Review of As Above, So Below (2014) by Nell A — 11 Oct 2015
Relying almost entirely on jumpscares and shaking cameras, it'll catch you off guard at times but it will never make you care. The pseudo-science in it, for me, was just aggravating. Having majored in history, with some mild archaeology on the side, the plot line was frankly just annoying.
Good leads for digs, especially for excellent students like Scarlett supposedly is, don't need to be Lara Croft style tomb raids. They require proper funding for a reason - safety and accuracy. She of all people would know that, especially since all female archaeologists in movie world have at least 3 Master's degrees and all speak at least four languages - they're not this silly.
The found footage style did a disservice as well, making the blurs and flashes of horror as easy to avoid as the predictable jumpscares.
