Review of Artifact (2012) by Mike D — 12 Apr 2014
Interesting look at the inner workings of a band and their battle with their record company. I always knew bands get a bad deal most of the time but it is truly shocking how bad. I was disappointed that the band decided to stay with EMI, of course there's that part of everyone that wanted to say "fuck this", but to grow as a band what could they do? I think even though the struggle was detrimental at the time it probably pushed this band to create a better record in the end.
Not only are there some interviews with industry insiders and artists alike, there's also a little background information about the band themselves, not too much, but just enough to know that these guys are very genuine and creative.
I think the record industry is dead, I don't know how it could be better, personally I like supporting musicians by crowd funding. They make their art, I get their CD or whatever - there's no middle man, of course this by far and most probably has limitations with distribution etc.
