Review of Arthur Christmas (2011) by Zachary C — 29 Dec 2013
Arthur Christmas, having to compete among the hordes of many other Christmas movies, ended up being a film that was not given the notice it most definitely deserved. This is a fantastic film. The introduction immediately sucks you into the film with some amazing things I don't dare to spoil(though I'm sure everyone knows by now).
The animation is amazing. It brings up interesting questions regarding Christmas and comes up with creative answers followed by astounding visuals for them. The characters are well thought out (albeit a bit generic) and fill into the story nicely.
Santa Claus himself has a different take from the usual Santa Clauses, and is so well done and unique that just the Santa alone puts this film in a different class from the other movies. While the plot was slightly weak, it more than makes up to it thanks to the clever action, dialogue, and suspense it provided.
Overall, despite some of the characters being a bit generic and a (potentially) predictable conclusion, Arthur Christmas is a gift-wrapped bundle that comes with appealing visuals, great ideas executed superbly, and a cheesy yet heartwarming story that works for the entire family.
