Review of Arthur Christmas (2011) by Campbell P — 23 Jul 2012
Arthur Christmas is a heartfelt Christmas themed movie which although lacks the essence of something magical, it still entails enough to stop you thinking 'Bah Humbug!'.
Arthur Christmas explores a child's fantasies as it shows a theory of how Santa/Father Christmas (voiced by Jim Broadbent) manages to distribute everyone's presents on the night of Christmas Eve. The theory is cleverly shown using great animation as little people leap off the S1 ship to cunningly avoid any humans and deliver the presents they require ready for Christmas Day. However, Arthur (the son of Santa, voiced by James McAvoy) realises that one person has been forgotten on Santa's list and demands they fix it before she wakes. While the others turn a blind eye, he and Grandsanta (voiced by Bill Nighy) begin a wild expedition to deliver the girl her presents and prove that Santa's family do care for her.
It's a whirlwind ride full of humour, emotion and excellent animation. Aardman Animations should be proud of their accomplishments; it may not be mind blowing but you could do a damn sight worse with your Christmas flicks!
