Review of Arthur (2011) by Delilah K — 06 Apr 2012
Brand may not be the ideal leading man because heâ??s only tolerable in small doses. That being said, he's perfect for the disreputable drunk Arthur. There was a decent effort to weave a nice love story into the tale of a man whittling away his family fortune on booze and bedlam; leaving little hope for his family run mega-corporation.
Signaling a new generation of actresses, for every bit that I didn't enjoy Garner's phony performance, I fell in love with Gerwigâ??s carefree portrayal of Arthur's true love and inspiration.
There are also some pretty good supporting performances by Mirren and Nolte. Arthur is a tough character to find endearing and will divide the audience into those who only see his debilities and those who can see the size of his heart.
