Review of Arthur (2011) by Evert B — 14 Aug 2011
Ok so I've never seen the original one nor have I ever really been a fan of Dudly Moore. And I'm not a fan of Russell Brand either. But since it seems for the time being he's sticking around I'm trying to give him a chance to prove he isn't just a complete twat.
So this to me came off like The Wedding Singer. Adam Sandler movies were him being a drunk idiot and this came along and showed a different side to his comedy craft. This is as close to down to earth lack of slap stick Brand has gotten.
And it fits him better. The story was decent. It took its time but knew when to end. The comedy worked well. Between this and No Strings Attached Greta Gerwig shows she is quite charming and I'm looking forward to seeing her more.
Helen Mirren is a class act. Though I felt Luis Guzman and Nick Nolte were under used by a lot. Then Jennifer Garner. She just doesn't impress me anymore. I haven't seen a good role out of her since The Kingdom.
She's been giving boring performances and really bringing nothing to the table except her name. Hope you get back at it. But I say it's well worth a watch.
