Review of Arthur (2011) by Brandon T — 10 Sep 2011
Arthur is the sort of remake that it pains you to watch after you've just seen the original. Almost everything that the original did right in terms of story and characterization, this remake did wrong. This film decided it would be a good idea to flesh out characters that didn't need it, change characters completely (I mean, why would Arthur fall in love with someone that bland), and when they did reprise lines, they only frustrated because the delivery was off.
That said, this was a great vehicle for Russell Brand. He is an actor that I have been less that excited about before, but it gives me some interest in his burgeoning career. He really is a funny guy, and is a pitch-perfect Arthur.
Save yourself the time. Watch the original, not this pointless rehash.
