Review of Arthur (2011) by Kevin D — 26 Dec 2011
This was a good remake. Russell Brand brought a flair all his own to the beloved Arthur Bach character. In the original, Dudley Moore would always have a glass in his hand, making jokes and then laughing hysterically at his own jokes.
In the remake, Russell Brand is seen drinking from a flask and not as often and doesn't come off as overly jovial while intoxicated. This time, the butler character is now Arthur's long-time nanny, but her name is still Hobson.
The story itself remained the same. Some of the scenes and the dialog played out the same, but there are a lot of new twists to the story. The wedding scene played out differently. The writers really took a lot of creative liberties with the third act.
I think fans of the original could get into this re-imagined ARTHUR. If we can have two Nightmare On Elm Streets, or two Friday The 13ths, why not two Arthurs?
