Review of Arthur (2011) by Jared J — 08 Jan 2012
Fluff, but entertaining all the same...
I was never really a fan of the original but I am a fan of Brand so was interested to see him in action here. He doesn't disappoint and he has a huge amount of charm on screen particularly when he is sparring with Helen Mirren (who shows a bit of warmth here that I didn't think she had). Greta Gerwig and the great Guzman aquit themselves nicely as well. It was also nice to see Garner and Nolte ham it up a little as well....
For me, the problem lies with the story itself and the fact that there is very little to relate to. Super rich guy has to choose between money or true companionship. This element of the film wasn't really examined or dealt with in a capable way and I couldn't really care less as a result.
Overall, it is the charm of the cast that make this film watchable and fun....
