Review of Arthur (2011) by Roy G — 11 Jan 2012
Quite frankly, not as bad of a movie as I was expecting. I mean Russell Brand is no Dudley Moore, that's for damn sure, and Russell CAN be a bit annoying. I think Russell can be entertaining in short bursts, not when he's the entire focus of the movie.
For example in 'Get him to the Greek', while he was really the main focus of the movie, he had Jonah Hill to play off of, therefore some of that burden was taken off of him and he didn't have to carry the movie on his own.
In this movie, he pretty much has to get by on his own and it's hard to watch at times to see how hard he really tries to make the movie better and he has some funny lines here and there, and he also gives off an air of likability , but ultimately the movie just doesn't work as well as it was probably intended to.
Plus I mean, it's not like the original Arthur really needed a remake. It was a really good movie, but it didn't exactly blow my mind. I just think this is proof that the majority people working in Hollywood just can't come up with their own ideas anymore.
Because it just seems that everything nowadays is a fucking remake. Anyway, the movie is OK at best. Russell Brand is hit and miss and this was definitely one of his misses.
