Review of Arthur (2011) by Ryan O — 29 Jan 2012
I enjoyed Arthur more than the original for two reasons, the absence of that god awful 'Arthur's Theme' which is clinically proven to damage my ears and the fact Dudley Moore is not in sight. Shock, horror gasp I don't hear you say, that's right Dudley Moore sinned against nature with his performance in the unforgivable Santa Claus: The Movie and for that I cannot watch him (Yes, Arthur came out before Santa Claus but I saw the latter first).
Russell Brand does a good job playing the drunken millionaire and Jennifer Garner's bland performance actually works in her unlikable character's favour. The two actors who make the whole thing worth a look are Greta Gerwig who gives a sweet but not sickening performance and Helen Mirren who pretty much rocks in everything she's in.
Worth a watch, although I didn't really find anything funny it didn't bore me and I kinda cared about the characters too, so a good review (kinda) it's not as if I'm going to ever watch it again.
