Review of Arthur (2011) by Kevin O — 26 May 2013
Did this need to be made? Probably not.
Did I laugh through most of the movie? Yes.
Most people are focusing on Russel Brand replacing Dudley Moore, but it is Helen Mirren who had the huge shoes of John Gielguld to fill from the original, and she does a great job at it. I don't know why, but I like Russel Brand, he makes me laugh and he has away of delivering the important scenes even if he is still acting like a goof ball.
Luis Guzman, Nick Nolte, and Greta Gerwig all give good shows with their time, but Jennifer Garner did nothing for me. She is starting to go the route of Cameron Diaz for me where I have no idea how they keep getting roles.
I wouldnt suggest going out and dropping $20 bucks for the Blu Ray, but when it is On Demand or a premium channel and you just want to shut the brain down and have a good laugh, this is the movie for you.
The biggest thing that ws missed was "Arthurs Theme". It does show up at the end but as a remake that should never of happened. There are a few good solo songs by Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie though.
