As somebody who's never seen the original, I can only judge this for what I see. As far as I can see, it's not bad. Brand and Mirren show an amiable connection together and though not acting much, are good choices for their characters.
The jokes are nicely timed throughout keeping the good spirit up and the locations are effective and nicely filmed. Most things are too false to believe, yet still nice.
