Review of Art School Confidential (2006) by Marissa C — 22 Jun 2008
Parts of this film were really funny and poignant, but I felt, overall, it was too campy. It sort of felt like it was caught between two genres, a goofy "mallrats/camp nowhere" type movie and a more sincere film about artists, which made watching it a little aggravating at times.
John Malkovich and Angelica Houston, although minor roles, definitely up the ante and make it more enjoyable. The ending is a rather dull and predictably unpredicatable/cliche, but there are a few shining moments of comedy that make you forgive its shortcomings.
