Review of Art School Confidential (2006) by Sean C — 23 Oct 2008

I liked Ghost World better, but this one is a close second. I really liked the way that, on the surface it's a satire of art schools and their students and teachers, but it's really actually a murder mystery.

I also liked the idea that the main character wasn't given a story where he overcomes the adversity of his art school peers and eventually is recognized for the great artist he is. It just seemed like a more interesting story the way it was done.

I loved John Malkovich as the teacher who is an expert in painting triangles, which he's been perfecting for 25 years. Also, I was glad that the main character was not made out to be a completely likeable character.

He has flaws. It was just nice to see a movie about students that doesn't go through the same tired motions as every other teen movie.
