Review of Art School Confidential (2006) by Magali G — 16 May 2008
I was positively surprised by this film. For me, it's amazing how a movie with such a weak and pretty silly plot succeeded in being interesting, humorous and amusing. First of all, it presents ideas that are good to think about and to laugh at (at least in this film); such us how important artists gain popularity with their death or by beeing involved in "odd" situations; or how relative art is, and what can be considered good or bad.
When it wants to be funny, it is very funny. There are great secondary characters and the ending is just perfect. It's not a memorable end, it's just highly suitable for the movie. Just that. Not a masterpiece, not the best movie of its decade, not even of its year; just a recommendable film that I really liked!
