Review of Arsenal (2017) by Mark L — 26 Jan 2017
While I'm not defending this film's flaws (of which there are many) I just wanted to add a little context to Nic Cage's performance which will appeal to fans of him at his craziest.
Eddie is the same character Nic Cage plays in the cult film Deadfall, which is considered to be his most outlandish performance ever among hardcore Cage fans (look up his wildest scenes in that film on YouTube, they're..... really something). Furthermore his real-life brother Christopher Coppola directed Deadfall and also plays Eddie's brother in Arsenal.
Why the director would choose to include such an obscure in-joke in his film is beyond me, especially since it makes Cage's performance totally at odds with the rest of the film. However, as a big fan of Deadfall I'm very glad he did.
I've given the film an average review of 3/5 because I can understand why most people would consider it a 1/5 but Nic Cage enthusiasts would consider it a 5/5.
