Review of Arrival (2016) by Mitchell G — 17 May 2017
Absolutely spectacular. Combining the Sapir-whorf hypothesis ("The theory that the panguage we speaks affects how we think") and a story about how its difficult to communicate with people. The movie shows how this communication can be difficult on not just a interpersonal level but also on a larger scale such as between countries adressinh hindrances to communicstion such as the concern of security.
"I have to explain everything you do to a room of people whos first and last question is how can this be used against us" Absolutely amazing. Best movie of the year.
